The National Security Education Day Hong Kong Symposium was held in the morning of 15 April, 2019. The organizer is the Hong Kong Vision Project (HKV) of Hong Kong Policy Research Institute (HKPRI), and the supporting organizers are the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (HKSAR) and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Liaison Office).
The guests of honour delivering speeches at the symposium included Mrs. Carrie Lam (Chief Executive of the HKSAR), Director Wang Zhimin of the Liaison Office, and Deputy Director Deng Zhonghua of Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council,
The guest speakers included Mr. Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary, HKSAR, Mrs. Margaret Chan Fung Fu-chun, former Director-General of the World Health Organization, and Mr. LO Wai-chung, Commissioner of Police, HKSAR.
The State Security Law of the People's Republic of China, promulgation in 2015 by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress fixes 15 April every year as the Nation Security Education Day to promote and enhance Chinese nationals’ awareness of national security. The symposium is the second one held since 2018, attended by over 300 participants, including principal and senior HKSAR officials, senior officials from the Central Government Offices in Hong Kong, HKSAR delegates to the National People’s Congress and the Political Consultative Committee, academia, business persons, professionals and representatives of youth organizations.
